Oak Ridge is a thriving city of approximately 27,000, home to the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Y-12 National Security Complex, and a host of engineering, environmental, and other support services. The business environment has expanded to include a variety of private-sector companies as well, taking advantage of the multitude of opportunities.

Education is a priority in Oak Ridge, home to a nationally-ranked public school system and a campus of Roane State Community College. Pellissippi State Technical Community College and the University of Tennessee are nearby.
Settled in 1942 as a part of the Manhattan Project, Oak Ridge remains home to a highly educated populace from all over the country and the world, with rich cultural offerings in the local symphony, community playhouse, dance academy, museums, and visual arts.

Additionally, Oak Ridge is home to a nationally-known rowing course featuring regattas during the spring and summer months – ORBRC meets at the conference center at the starting line of this world-class course. The city also maintains a variety of parks and recreation facilities and an extensive system of greenways and walking trails.
In addition to the local facilities being preserved as part of our country's World War II heritage, Oak Ridge and Anderson County are home to several outstanding museums. The Children's Museum of Oak Ridge and the American Museum of Science and Energy are located in the city. The Green McAdoo Cultural Center (which honors the 12 students who were the first to integrate a public high school in the South following the Brown vs. Board of Education decision by the U.S. Supreme Court) and the Museum of Appalachia are in Clinton and Norris, respectively. Norris Dam, the first in the TVA system, is also nearby.
Within an hour's drive are several state parks, as well as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park — the most-visited national park.
