About Our Club - Membership Committee

Earn a ticket in the year-end membership drawing

when you invite a potential member to join you at a club meeting before June 18.

Sponsor a new member through to induction by June 18 and earn a ticket in a second drawing.

Winners of each will be awarded the amount of dues they paid by the May 1 deadline for 2008-2009 dues ($500 for a full year; $260 for half-year).

All members were sent a letter with details in late February, and an article in Breakfast Bytes on March 2 highlighted the plan for a strong finish to the 2007-2008 membership year.

Contact us if you have questions or need more details.

Interested in proposing someone for membership in ORBRC? Contact any of the Membership Committee volunteers listed at the bottom of this page for help or more information.

You can download the membership proposal form from the password-protected, members'-only side of the website. Click on For Members ... at left and then look for the Club Documents link on the members' only home page.

Membership Committee members work together to build the strong, diverse base that supports ORBRC's goals. Some of the committee, meeting after a club meeting, from left around the table, are Mike Morris, Fred Barry, Emily Jernigan, Jake Morrill, co-chair Nancy Donsbach, and Kathy Turpin.

Participation Statistics* 7/1/2007 - 04/30/2008

As presented at our first club assembly this year, our Membership Committee set a participation* goal of 82% – arrived at after our long-range planning sessions and goal-setting sessions. We’re well on our way!

*The following members have logged meeting attendance, service project efforts, committee meetings to move us toward our goals in the community and in the world, fellowship activities, and make-ups at other clubs or online.

For some, it’s a personal goal; for others, it’s a happy accident!

Statistics through 4/30/08 with makeups received through 5/6/08:

34 members at 100% participation: Fred Barry, Jim Bradbury, Karen Bridgeman, Linda Brown, Kelly Callison, Lynn Cardwell, Charles Crowe, Dan DiGregorio, Kathy Edwards, Judi Gray, David Harris, Martha Hobson, Emily Jernigan, Terry McGhee, Kathy McMillan, Louise Mixon, Mike Morris, Mason Oakes, Veronica O'Hearn, Roger Olson, Pat Postma, Pat Powell, Dan Robbins, Dub Shults, Randy Shults, Ray Smith, Robin Textor, Brenda Thornburgh, Cathy Toth, Kathy Turpin, Theresa Venable, Robert Weir, Christina Young, Jerry Young.

53 members at 80% or better: Angi Agle, John Barber, Albert Beasley, Lydia Birk, Ken Brady, Brian Buuck, Gene Caldwell, Jim Cape, Bonnie Carroll, Andrew Cheung, Tom Clary, Dave Coffey, Keith Craft, Stan Crawford, Dick Davis, Larry Dipboye, Nancy Donsbach, Jo Ann Garrett, Courtney Henry, Bob Highfill, Kay Hillyard, Jerry Holbrook, Freda Hopper, John Iacovino, Rodney Kyzer, Tom Lakers, Joe Lenhard, Sherry Livengood, Jeff Mason, Dave McCoy, Joe McGrory, Kathy McNeilly, Ruby Miller, Jake Morrill, Margaret Morrow, David Olsen, Jim Palmer, Joe Parks, Pat Parr, Nelson Patterson, Pete Peterson, Sam Pelchar, Henry Perry, Ray Pierce, Bob Poe, Dan Quinn, Lou Rabinowitz, Ben Redmond, Leigha Stewart, Jessica Wade, John Wheeler, Kay Whitman, Mary Lou Whitten.

If you have a question about your participation – whether you are interested in what constitutes a make-up, if you think your numbers are wrong, or whether you want to be sure you are meeting Rotary International’s 50% expectation – please check with one of the Membership Committee chairs, Christina Young or Nancy Donsbach, or send an email to attendance@orbrc.org.

As a wise member of our club has pointed out, simply attending every meeting isn’t the point of encouraging participation – if we were all in our seats every Wednesday but didn’t take any action to improve our community or the world, there wouldn’t be a lot of reason for the club to exist. It’s the connections and the action that count.

OPEN CLASSIFICATIONS

Many of the classifications in our club have room for more members -- according to RI, we can have up to 10% of our membership in any given classification, and the only one that is full is Government Services - Management.

Open classifications -- those areas of our community's vocational makeup where we have no members -- follow. If you know someone who fits one of these open classifications (and, really, you DO!), someone you think would benefit from Rotary and strengthen our club, extend an invitation to join us for breakfast one week.

If you're not comfortable with the "ask," talk with one of the membership committee volunteers listed and the end of this page.

Remember that none of us would be here unless someone had asked us. Get YOUR ask in gear!

Retired Cardiologist Fred Barry reminded members to get their "asks" in gear at the 2007 membership committee presentation.

Rotary Ranger Jake Morrill checks his notes before closing  the deal with

Suave Businessman Mike Morris
(who had to borrow the tie!).

Emily Jernigan failed in her attempt to entice a rube (Mike Morris ... again) into joining Rotary so he could network and market his home brew.
