Tennessee's First Breakfast Club - Randy Shults - President 2008-09

Rotary Club No. 3878 - Oak Ridge, Tennessee - District 6780

VOTED DISTRICT 6780 BEST ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTER - 2007-2008

  Volume 29 - No. 43

Karen Bridgeman - Breakfast Bytes Editor

April 28, 2009

Our ORBRC Spring
Fun(ction) brought together about 60 Rotarians and guests at Moondollars Cafe (as in "not Starbucks") last week.

At left, Pat Imperato and John Iacovino compare glasses -- and it should be noted that John was "on his way home from the hospital" at the time!

(That's Cathy Toth's husband, Bill, in the background).

For more great pictures of this event, sponsored by our Fellowship Committee, check out Emily Jernigan's photos in our club photo album. We'll post makeups when the list gets turned in!

 LONG-RANGE PLANNING MOVING FORWARD

About a dozen members of our club met last week to extend the long-range planning process for the coming year. Preliminary plans and budgets were reviewed.

The next session will be held this Friday, beginning at 11:30 a.m., in the first-floor conference room (Room 150) of the Cowperwood Building at 151 Lafayette Drive (the western most building of the complex at the intersection of Lafayette and Laboratory Road). The club calendar and projects proposed by club advocates for the coming year will be reviewed as well as individual committee goals.

Please let Charles Crowe know if you plan to attend so that we're sure to have enough lunches ordered.

HELP WANTED: FOUNDATIONALLY

The Foundation Committee is in need of a volunteer to learn how to process and keep the associated records for donations to the Rotary Foundation.  This person will serve as backup for Dub Shults, and eventually take over the job.  The person needs to be comfortable with EXCEL and good with details.  The job requires an hour or so per week on average and it is not a scheduled or time-driven task.  If you are interested, please contact Martha Hobson or Dub Shults.

Great News from our Robertsville Breakfast YouthActors —

An email from Cathy Toth, our Robertsville Middle School YouthAct coordinator:
"Gotta pass on a WOW:  As you know, the YouthAct club is working on raising money for their clean water project in Cambodia. This morning (Tuesday), we tallied up the donations so far – more than $1800 in two weeks!"

If you still want to participate, they extended the deadline until the next YouthAct meeting on May 12. See Cathy!

A LAST FRIENDLY REMINDER

Dues are due FRIDAY  for the coming Rotary year. Amounts are $260 for six months or $500 for the full year.

Mail your check to ORBRC, PO Box 4164, Oak Ridge, TN 37831 or bring it with you to this week's meeting. CLICK HERE to download a copy of the credit card form; complete the information, and fax it to the number on the form.

If you need another copy of your statement, please contact Treasurer Robert Weir at rwcpa@boweir.com.

ATTENTION: PAUL HARRIS FELLOWS

711 Club Opportunity in Progress - Donation is $50 for the chance to name the next ORBRC Paul Harris Fellow.

Donations will support things like the GSE Team from India that visited with our club and in our community last week and our nomination of a potential Ambassadorial Scholar.

Dig deep and see Dub Shults or Tom Lakers.

SATURDAY is THE Night for THE O.R. Rotary Club Gala

THE Oak Ridge Rotary Club will hold its seventh annual gala on Saturday, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Flatwater Grill Events Center.

The "Jewels-N-Jeans" themed event promises appetizers, drinks, and lively entertainment for a worthy cause. Attendees are invited to wear jeans and fancy tops and support THE club's fundraising efforts for the coming Rotary year.
