Graduation Celebration Needs YOU

Sign up today to support ORBRC's efforts with Graduation Celebration 2009 -- "World Cruise" style.

This drug- and alcohol-free, all-night, lock-in party for Oak Ridge High School's graduates is one of the projects our club has been involved in since the beginning -- 13 years ago.

(Think about that -- the kids who are graduating this year have never been in school when there wasn't a whopper-doodle party at the end of it all. Pretty cool!)

Pat Parr and Jerry Young

pack up cups that hold casino

chips after the 2008 party.

Activity has been heating up on the get-ready-for-it side of things for weeks now, and the heavy duty lifting starts Monday, June 1, with the bulk of the work being done Wednesday and Thursday.

The kids -- ahem! -- new graduates will arrive between 10 and 11 p.m. on Thursday,

Dick Davis and his wife, Beverly,

were among several couples

who braved the early hours

to lend a hand.

June 4, and the festivities begin officially shortly after 11 with a balloon drop.

By the time Rotarians arrive to help hand out the reallly big prizes (including a 2004 Chevy S Blazer LS our club and the Noon Club helped pay for!) at about 5 a.m., the kids will have had a chance to SCUBA dive, climb inflatable walls, play dozens of games, get henna tattoos or manicures, and eat themselves silly -- among many other prize-winning, memory-making events.

If you'd like to help with our 5 a.m. - 8 a.m. shift, contact Roger Olson at our meeting this week or next or click here to send an email.

Roger will need your t-shirt size since we'd like all our Rotarians to wear a Breakfast Brigade t-shirt (we provide those), and you'll also earn a Graduation Celebration "cruise staff" shirt that you'll receive at the event.

If you are REALLY a glutton for punishment, volunteers are still needed to monitor doors, manage games, wrangle food, and more for the 1-a.m.-to-5-a.m. shift.

This event has a history of drawing more than 80% of ORHS's graduates -- in large part because of the quality of prizes and the great time the kids have (and tell one another about). You can help make this year's party the best ever.

Join Roger and our other volunteers -- be a memory maker!

Help Choose Our Rotarian of the Year

At our Annual Meeting on July 1, we will honor a member of our club who has provided outstanding service. Your nominations will help determine who that person will be.

Check out the article in last week's newsletter; you'll find the criteria on our website's Club History and Awards page and on the handout/nomination form on tables at our club meeting.

Talk to Robin Textor if you have any questions. As last year's winner, he'll be heading the committee to choose this year's honoree.
