GRADUATION CELEBRATION VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED
If you'd like to help with our 5 a.m. - 8 a.m. shift at Graduation Celebration early Friday morning, contact Roger Olson at our meeting this week or click here to send an email.
Roger will need your t-shirt size since we'd like all our Rotarians to wear a Breakfast Brigade t-shirt (we provide those), and you'll also earn a Graduation Celebration "cruise staff" shirt that you'll receive at the event.
Approximately 350 students were on schedule to graduate as of last week. If previous year's attendance percentages hold true, that means about 300 kids will be glad to see you show up to help distribute the really big prizes, including a 2004 Shevy S Blazer.
Join Roger and our other volunteers -- be a memory maker!
Service Above Self Award nominees sought
In addition to the Rotarian of the Year honors (see below) the Service Above Self award is given by Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club to recognize individuals or groups that have performed exceptional and sacrificial service of a volunteer nature over a significant period of time.
This award may be given as often as once per year, but only when deserving recipients are identified. The award carries a monetary grant. Active Rotarians are not eligible.
Click here to go to the page on our website with more information and a list of past winners.
Selection criteria are as follows:
- The central factor is exceptional service that improves the welfare of others.
- "Service" implies active personal involvement on a volunteer basis; it may directly relate to the honoree's vocation but may not have been rendered for the purpose of recognition, publicity, or remuneration.
- "Service" should be of a sustained nature.
- "Service" may be rendered to individuals or to a community of individuals.
- Recipients may not be active members of any Rotary Club.
- Recipients must reside within the ORBRC area ("Oak Ridge and surrounding areas").
Click here to download a simple nomination form -- copies also will be on the tables at our meeting this week.
Nominations should be returned to the Selection Committee -- Fred Barry, Larry Dipboye, Joann Garrett, Lou Rabinowitz, or Dub Shults -- before June 15.
Here's your chance: Help Choose the 2008-2009 Rotarian of the Year
Remember that at our Annual Meeting on July 1, we will honor a member of our club who has provided outstanding service. Your nominations will help determine who that person will be.
You'll find the criteria on our website's Club History and Awards page and on the handout/nomination form on tables at our club meeting.
Talk to Robin Textor if you have any questions. As last year's winner, he'll be heading the committee to choose this year's honoree.
