GRADUATION CELEBRATION: A HIT!
Graduation Celebration 2009 drew 84% of the ORHS Class of 2009 Thursday evening -- and about 15% of the members of Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club.
In addition to helping fund the 2004 Chevy Blazer given away, The Rotarians helped give it to Claire Freeman, whose tears of joy reminded us of the excitement of being a brand-new high school graduate (and just how exhausted you are when you've been up all night!).
Many thanks to the nearly 30 members (and family members) who came out to help with the "Deal or No Deal" effort and who stayed to help with clean up activities at Oak Ridge Civic Center:
Roger Olson, who organized the effort this year, and his wife, Susie, were joined by Fred and Sandra Barry, Dick Davis, Dave McCoy, Emily Jernigan, Lydia Birk, Cathy Toth, Nancy Donsbach, Charles Crowe, Jim Cape, Margaret Morrow, Angi Agle, Marcia Slagle, Tracy Larabee, Cathy Toth, Jim Rushton, Faye Orick, and Alan Liby.
In addition, ORBRC'ers Jean Reat and his wife Donna, Judi Gray and her husband Lenny, and Karen Bridgeman helped out with other activities associated with the event. Even Jim Michel, proposed for membership by Fred Barry, was there!
Thanks to all -- a great event, again, that shows our young people how much we care about them, and how much fun they can have in an environment that is drug- and alcohol-free.

Service Above Self Award
nomination deadline is next week
June 15 is the deadline for the Service Above Self award given by Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club to recognize individuals or groups that have performed exceptional and sacrificial service of a volunteer nature over a significant period of time.
This award may be given as often as once per year, but only when deserving recipients are identified. The award carries a monetary grant. Active Rotarians are not eligible.

Nominations should be returned to the Selection Committee -- Fred Barry, Larry Dipboye, Joann Garrett, Lou Rabinowitz, or Dub Shults -- before June 15.
