Passing of the YouthAct gavel

PASSING OF THE GAVEL –

In anticipation of the July 1 transfer of leadership set for Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club, representatives of the YouthAct club ORBRC sponsors at Robertsville Middle School attended our meeting last week. ORBRC President Randy Shults accepted return of the ORBRC charter gavel from YouthAct Charter President AJ Toth (loaned to the club when it was chartered earlier this year), and presented the YouthAct Club leaders with an engraved gavel of for the club's for use in the years ahead. Above, President-Elect Lloyd Adler-Lombardi (left) accepts the new gavel for the club from AJ. ORBRC also presented the young men with Four-Way Test bookmarks for each of the club's members. Club Advisor Norma James was the speaker for the meeting.

Norma James, Janet Beeler Proposed
for Honorary Membership in ORBRC

Membership Chair Karen Bridgeman has proposed YouthAct advisors Norma James and Janet Beeler for honorary membership in Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club. The Board has voted to accept the nomination and place it before the club for approval.

According to the standard Rotary Club Constitution, individuals "who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals and those persons considered friends of Rotary for their permanent support of Rotary's cause may be elected to honorary membership in this club."

Karen writes, "Because of their early morning schedules in the classroom, neither Norma or Janet could make the commitment to join our club and meet Rotary's attendance requirements, but their extraordinary efforts in establishing an incredibly strong YouthAct Club, and their outstanding commitment to the things we work to advance is amazing. I am proposing we take this action both to honor these women and to strenghten our bond with them and our YouthAct club."

Honorary members are exempt from the payment of admission fees and dues, have no vote in club matters, and are not eligible to hold office. Honorary members do not hold classifications, but they are entitled to attend all meetings and enjoy all the other privileges of this club. An honorary member has the right to visit other clubs without being the guest of a Rotarian, and honorary members can bring guests to our club meeting or other clubs' meetings as long as they observe the clubs' rules for guests (i.e., paying for their meals).

Other honorary members of our club include former active members Frank Jamison, Ann Bratton, and Wanda Craven; Rotary Foundation alumni Jake Morrill and Emily Mitchell; Clinton Rotarian Bear Stephenson (you can be an active member of one club and an honorary member of another club at the same time!); and Charlotte Textor, wife of Past District Governor Robin Textor.

If you have an objection to the proposal, please send an email to orbrc@comcast.net by Thursday, July 2.

Condolences are extended to Rotarian Kathy McMillan on the death last week of her dad,
Clifton Z. (Bud) Bales.

Services were held Monday, June 29,

at Yale Avenue Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, Okla.,
with Rose Hill Memorial Park Funeral Home in charge.

We also extend our condolences to Rotarian Theresa Venable, whose mother,

Rosa Toney Evans,

died Saturday in Georgia.

The funeral is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John AME Church in Columbus, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers the family requested donations to the

Alabama State Alumni Association - Columbus, Ga., Chapter Scholarship Cmte

c/o Dr. James Patrick, 1135 Laurelwood Rd., Columbus, GA 31904.

Please keep our members and their families in your prayers.
