Notes from Rotary Meeting - March 17, 2010 HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY! by Pat Powell
Charles Crowe, Club President, opened the meeting and welcomed members and guests.
Many club members looked extremely "festive" in their green, in honor of St. Patrick's Day!
Guests and Visitors: Jim Michael introduced guests and visitors. Dave McCoy's guests included Lisa Lamphere, United Way Resource Director. Jack Bailey, President of The Rotary Club, was present as well.
Bailey talked about the Rotary Group Study Exchange Program which occurs April 11th through May 9th. A host family for four females from Taiwan is needed for those dates.
Other announcements: April 16 & 17, 2010 are the dates for the District 6780 Conference, at the Chattanooga Convention Center, Chattanooga, TN. All members are encouraged to attend! See below for additional information.
Kelly Callison reminded members the annual literacy lunch will be on the 18th (last Thursday). Tickets were currently on sale as of the meeting time and four Rotary tables are being filled.
Linda Brown announced that the next trash pickup event will be on March 27th. Those participating should gather at the Pavilion near the Marina between 8 and 8:15 a.m.
A very nice letter was read from the Oak Ridge Schools Resource Center - thanking members for all their support which helped make the Christmas Angel program successful again this past year.
Emily Jernigan announced that well over $8,000 was raised at the club's auction held last week (March 10th). There is still about $2,300 outstanding.
Veronica O'Hearn served as rooster this morning, standing in for "Parker O'Hardy". Happy dollars included several contributions on behalf of Barbara Ferrell for her dedicated work in the Oak Ridge Revitalization Project, in which she and others are attempting to raise an adequate amount of money to restore the historic Alexander Inn in our city.
The Program: Tom Lakers introduced Robert Smitty who presented a very interesting program, including an informative slide presentation, on the development of massive water garden projects.
