YouthActors, parents, siblings, Rotarians and spouses slogged through a wet and wonderful Trash Bash Saturday.

TRASH BASH A (MUDDY) SUCCESS FOR 2009

Thanks to the YouthAct group from Robertsville Middle School and Breakfast Rotarians the waterfront from Lakeside to the finish line and around the marina area is cleaned up and ready for all the spring activities.

Thirty-nine hardy souls showed up at 9 am and were finished before 11 am with the cleanup. The youth were a wonderful addition to our efforts. They got right into the work and as you can see from the photos Cathy Toth got into our club photo album, they also got right into the wet and mud.

No one actually fell into the lake but I'm told some made sure they got their feet and other body parts into a bit of mud and water other than the rain.

All of us were wet when we finished but the weather held off for the most part, just a light mist that managed to get everyone wet, but without the downpour we were anticipating.

After having participated in this clean-up since its inception, I'm pleased to report that there is not as much trash as the years go by as there was when we first began our efforts.

There are always interesting items found and this year was no exception. Beaver and a deer carcas were found as well as an antique radio, jar of pickles, a deer jaw bone, metal trash can lid, a hatch from a boat, several tires and two dead ducks.

Approximately 30-35 bags of trash were retrieved and placed along the road side for the city to retrieve and carry away.

Rotarians who earned a makeup for their participation include: Terry McGhee, Linda Brown, Tom Clary, Cathy Toth, Kelly Callison, JoAnn Garrett (Ray Garrett), John Iacovino, Mike Baker, Jim Rushton, Fred Barry, Lydia Birk, Juliana Stanley (Pete), Pat Powell, David Harris (David Harris, Jr.), and Jim Cape.

(If we've left off your name, be sure it was an accident, and please let us know!

Everyone was in good spirits and I'm always so proud to be a part of an organization that does so many good works in our community without expecting anything for themselves. A wonderful example of "service above self."

Our community is in good hands with the youth that I saw today. We need to encourage all of them and their families.

 – Linda Brown, Umpteenth Annual Trash Bash Chair
