INDIA -- they are on their way
The Group Study Exchange team from India will visit with our club on Wednesday, April 15, according to ORBRC coordinator John Iacovino.
This inbound GSE team from District 3312 -- and the team of young professionals from East Tennessee sponsored by our district (District 6780) who make up our outbound team -- are funded by contributions made to The Rotary Foundation and are part of one of those "international goodwill and friendship" elements that make Rotary unique.
Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club has participated in the hosting of GSE teams for many years -- it's one of the activities that has earned us the GLOBE CLUB recognition that World Community Service Committee member Ron Appuhn recognized at our meeting a couple of weeks ago.
John is looking for Rotarians who can help with transporation for the team on April 15.
"We need two drivers with vehicles to escort part of the team," John says. "There will be a visit to ORNL Graphite Reactor and to TVA Power sites and also a visit to OR Schools."
If you can help, please see John at Wednesday's meeting or click here to contact us via email.

IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO REGISTER FOR THE DISTRICT CONFERENCE,
SET FOR APRIL 17-18 AT THE NEW EVENT CENTER IN SEVIERVILLE.
ORBRC WILL REIMBURSE THE $25 REGISTRATION FEE FOR THOSE WHO ATTEND.
And forget the rest of the (wonderful) program: You don't want to miss Robin Textor's impression of a famous country singer or
Henry Perry's fine representation of the real talent in our club at Saturday night's talent show!
THERE ARE NINE BREAKOUT SESSIONS PLANNED FOR SATURDAY -- Randy Shults will talk about our new YouthAct Club at one of them!
CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION and watch for sign up sheets at our club meeting Wednesday.
LONG-RANGE PLANNING RESET: APRIL 23
President-Elect Charles Crowe says the first part of the Long-Range Planning sessions, postponed from a few weeks ago, will take place Thursday, April 23, probably beginning after lunch and continuing until about 5 p.m. (leaving plenty of time to get to the fellowship event set for 5-7 that evening -- see below). Watch for more details.

The Four-Way Test -- Made Real
by Courtney R. Henry, ORBRC PR Committee Chair
I read a very interesting article about "The Four Way Test." I didn't know the complete history of the Four Way Test or how it came to be adopted by Rotarians around the world.
Many Rotarians likely know the history so I won't use this recap to talk about that. I am more interested in focusing on the Four Way Test itself.
Along with my fellow Rotarians I recite the Four Way Test at the end of every meeting and I feel energized by the words as I go about my days both working at my job and fulfilling my various community and charitable obligations. However, I realized when I read this article that I had not looked deeper into the meaning of these words and how they relate to our society today.
It seems there are those that question whether something written in the 1930s can translate to our lives today. I think The Four Way Test gives you a plan that may mean slower, but more meaningful growth as it relates to business. You might miss out on something in the short term but by abiding by your ethical standards you can reap more benefits in the long run (and sleep better at night as well). I think particularly in today's economic climate we are going to be paying more and more attention to the ethics, and let's just call it "staying power," of those we do business with both in our businesses and personal lives.
I would encourage all of those that have the time, or need a make-up, to visit Rotary E-Club of Southeast USA and Caribbean and read this article. It is located under the "Public Image Section."
I will end my summary with one of my favorite examples in the story. A Rotary Club in Japan initiated a project to provide loan umbrellas for railroad passengers caught in unexpected showers. One member questioned whether the loan umbrellas would be returned or if they would simply be taken. Another member suggested they print The Four Way Test on the underside of the umbrellas. Months later the umbrellas had been widely used and were all still accounted for. Maybe sometimes people just need a little nudge (or 4 little nudges as the case may be), to do the right thing.
