Robin Textor, a charter member of Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club, chaired the four-district conference. Here, he presides at the President's Banquet, where Rotary International President Wilf Wilkinson was the featured speaker. District Conference 2008 4/20/2008 We celebrated District Governor Robin Textor's year as District Governor and supported his conference in big numbers -- 27 club members and 12 family members/guests joined the fun at the Music City Sheraton in Nashville April 18-20, 2008. We picked up some awards for our year, too!  View
What a crew! Umpteenth Annual Trash Bash - Melton Lake 4/9/2008 More than two dozen Rotarians, family members, and friends joined forces for ORBRC's annual cleanup of the shoreline at Melton Hill Lake -- just in time for the start of regatta season in Oak Ridge. Since the TVA drawdown happens regardless of the weather, they get extra credit for spending Saturday morning under dark clouds! Emily Jernigan added 4/9/08  View

From left: Rotarian Freda Hopper, Alex Hopper, Raquel Reviria, Trejon Spratling, Meghan Hopper, Rotarian Charles Crowe, and Rotary District 6780 Governor Robin Textor. Thanks! CLUB MEMBERS 4/1/2008 We're creating an album of head shots of our club members -- you'll be able to "thumb through" the album soon! If you would rather submit a photo for our use here, please limit it to a head-and-shoulders shot for which the file size is no larger than 200KB (and 72 dpi). You can email it to orbrc@comcast.net. Thanks!  View

Glennis Treece, principal (left), and Patricia Cofer, teacher at Walnut Hill Elementary School in Harriman used $1500 to buy books that celebrate cultural diversity for kindergarteners. Literacy Fund-Raiser Award Winners honored 3/12/2008 We honored the nine programs selected for awards given with funds raised in the 2007 Literacy Luncheon at our club meeting on March 12. Fourteen applications totaling more than $30,000 were received; more than $15,000 was awarded for programs that serve children, adults, and families stuggling with literacy issues in Anderson and Roane counties.  View
Look what *I* got!

(And a voice in the background, Dictionary Project 2007 3/12/2008 The three Rotary clubs in Anderson County are participating in The Dictionary Project, a nationwide effort to put an age-appropriate dictionary in the hands of every third-grade student. The project has been led since 2006 by ORBRC with Jim Bradbury, The Literacy Guy, in charge. In March 2008, an anonymous donor funded dictionaries for Morgan County third-graders and we delivered!  View
Andy signed lots of books while he was here, including those signed by this year's speakers that our club will donate to area schools. Andy visits Oak Ridge 2/22/2008 Andy Shoup, author and illustrator of the children's book "Andy & Elmer's Apple Dumpling Adventure" that illustrates Rotary's Four-Way Test, visited Oak Ridge Feb. 22 and 23 to help us celebrate World Rotary Day and Rotary International's 103rd birthday.  View

(Thanks to Pat Postma and Emily Jernigan, the food was great!)  View

The Governor's Cup (four Rotarians per team) was won by Farragut Rotary Club, with Hamilton Place and Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club in second and third place, respectively, after a three-way tie was broken. The Bomar flight (at least two Rotarians per team) was won by the Livingston Rotary Club with the Morristown and Knoxville Breakfast Rotary clubs in second and third place, respectively.  View
RYLA 2007 9/29/2007 ORBRC sponsored seven students to the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Sept. 29, and the club coordinated transportation for our kids and those sponsored by Clinton Rotary Club, South Campbell County Rotary Club, and The (Other) Oak Ridge Rotary Club. President-Elect Randy Shults, who chairs the Youth Services Committee, and committee members Karen Harris, Karen Downer, and Jo Ann Garrett served as chaperones. Our Distict Governor, Robin Textor, joined them, too.  View
ORBRC often hosts Meeting photos for Liz 9/22/2007 Our Cultural Scholar Liz Grabenstein has asked for some meeting photos -- her host club in Granada, Spain, is having trouble imagining a club that is so large or meets so early! (Liz, be sure to look at the album just before this one -- our "annual" membership meeting silliness.)  View
Retired cardiologist Fred Barry is looking for new blood for Rotary. Get Your "ASK" in Gear 8/22/2007 The membership committee marshalled its forces (and its nerve) to give the club a humorous look at the best -- and worst -- ways to ask a potential member to learn about Rotary.  View

Bill, who joined Oak Ridge Rotary Club in 1947, recently retired as chair of the International PolioPlus Committee. He has also served as RI Vice President, RI director, and Foundation trustee. Thanks to Pat Postma and Emily Jernigan and the Fellowship committee for a hot time (the only thing that might have improved the evening was a little more air conditioning).  View
