Description: Thanks to the outstanding efforts of an Olympic Dream Team of volunteers from the Oak Ridge Breakfast, Oak Ridge Sunset, and (the daddy of them all) THE Ridge Rotary Club, more than 100 of us gathered for fun and food and challenges of an Olympian nature. Food fit for Olympians - Theresa Venable (at the end of the table) points out something special to Ken Sommerfeld. Rotarians from all three clubs brought food to share -- with Olympic and international themes. John Iacovino shows off his 1996 Atlanta Olympics jacket, earned as an official for rowing. Pat Postma prepares the ribbons for the winners. Pat and Emily Jernigan co-chair the Membership Committee's Fellowship Subcommittee, which planned the event with members of all three Oak Ridge Rotary clubs. More time spent picking up the hula-hoop than spinning it... Winning spin! Karen pointed out that the goal was simply to get the hoop spinning ... Mind game -- Olympic trivia proved a challenge for, from left, Bob Hightower, Charlie Hensley, and Lydia Birk. Winning form of feather toss - Brenda Thornburg ultimately took home the gold! Bruce Easley excelled at tossing hollow balls in box -- wiffle golf balls and nerf tennis balls took the place of whatever it is one throws in the shot put.
Balancing act -- Dan Robbins shows medal-winning form on the Relay with style - Ken Sommerfeld and Dan DiGregorio demonstrate their winning technique in the Rock 'n' Relay race. Relay with style - under pressure Relay with style - success! Winners are given ribbons - 1996 Olympic official John Iacovino helped distribute bronze, silver, and gold medals.
