2009-2010 President Charles Crowe  Charles Crowe

2009-2010 President

ORBRC

Charles has been a member of ORBRC since 1987 when he was sponsored by then-President Bill Thomas.

A Paul Harris fellow, he was elected President Nominee in December 2007.

Prior to that, he served as VP for Internal Operations and was active in helping plan (and almost win) the District 6780 golf tournament in October 2007, when Robin Textor was District Governor and ORBRC hosted the event.

Over the past 20 years, Charles has been an active participant in Club activities and a sponsor of several members. He served last year as chair of the Fund-Raising committee, leading the effort that will fund the club's charitable activities during his year as club president.

He also has served as Rooster, co-chairman of the Rotary Walk for Mankind, assisted with the Sergeant-at-Arms duties, and served several years as the Club's Classification Officer. Charles has also been active in many of the Club's volunteer activities and currently serves as a volunteer tutor at Woodland School through the Readers & Leaders program.

Charles retired from the Department of Energy in 2006, after a 30-year career, and currently is the President and CEO of C&C Specialty Advertising. He and his wife, Edwena, have two grown children, Nicholas and Rebecca, who also now live in Oak Ridge, and who accompanied Charles and Edwena to the 2009 Rotary International Convention in Birmingham, England.

Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary, chartered in 1980, focuses its efforts on literacy for children and adults in Oak Ridge and Anderson and Roane counties, leadership and service projects that touch young lives, and humanitarian and quality of life activities that make our community and our world a better place to live.

Our members – the community and business leaders who embrace Rotary International’s ideal of Service Above Self and its 2008-2009 theme, “Make Dreams Real” – demonstrate their commitment through their participation in our lively Wednesday morning meetings and the time they volunteer (and support they provide) for club projects and activities.

Our weekly speakers help our 135+ members learn about the world of work and service, bringing us presentations that are entertaining and enlightening. Club assemblies that help members understand and participate in the workings of the club are held four times each year and keep the club moving forward.

Membership in Rotary is by invitation of the club's board of directors and approval of the full membership.  If you are interested in learning more about this international organization of more than 1.2 million business and professional leaders with hearts for service, please contact me via email to crowecd@bellsouth.net
